Bickerton Hill is part of the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge stretching across the Cheshire plain in a more or less north-south direction.From the top of Bickerton, you can look west towards the Welsh hills and north towards the Dee estuary and Liverpool. ( In good weather ,you can even see the two cathedrals)
Bickerton is still wooded ( pine, birch) but trees are being cut down to restore the hill to its former habitat: heathland with heather and bilberry.There is a good variety of birds to be seen or heard including the mistle-thrush, the redwing, the fieldfare, the green and great-spotted woodpeckers, the jay, the common buzzard, the raven and the willow warbler.
La colline de Bickerton fait partie d'un ensemble de collines de grès rouge s'étirant dans la plaine du Cheshire dans une direction plus ou moins nord-sud.Du haut de Bickerton, on peut voir les collines du Pays de Galles à l'ouest et l'estuaire de la rivière Dee ainsi que Liverpool au nord.(Par beau temps ,on peut même voir les deux cathédrales)
La colline est encore boisée( pin, bouleau) mais on est en train d'abattre les arbres pour restaurer l'ancien habitat de lande: bruyère et airelle.On y touve un bon nombre d'espèces d'oiseaux ,dont les grives draine, mauvis et litorne,le pic-vert et le pic-épeiche,le geai, la buse variable , le grand corbeau et le pouillot fitis.
