RIANTEC -February 19th

A very short morning visit to that place by the sea. I take my mother's dog out for a walk and hopefully I will see some birds. I can hear a song thrush calling from behind some thick bushes but I can't see it.The only bird to appear on the gorse is a dunnock.

Mallard / Col-vert -February 19th

I take a photo of this mallard through the car window as I drive along the marsh.

A DAY OUT ON RHUYS /February 3rd

A very bright and sunny but very cold day. I do not see many birds but I am well pleased when I find a jack snipe.

This jack snipe is so well camouflaged in the dead leaves and twigs under a bush that I almost miss it when scanning the edge of a pond at Suscinio. My first ever photo of this bird.I get only a few shots , walking towards it as close as I dare.

Little egret / Aigrette garzette / February 3rd

It is extremely cold and the mudflats are frozen. There is a tiny stream of water though where this egret is foraging. I wonder how it can survive in this weather. There is some determination in the way it walks.

Brent goose/ Bernache cravant / February 3rd

A great number of these geese gather to rest and forage in the field behind the chapel at Penvins. They fly off whenever someone walks too close to their flock.

A TRIP TO STAFFORDSHIRE / January 13th

We spent that day in a nature reserve by a large reservoir. First we took pictures of the birds in the bushes by the water. They would come out to feed on the many feeders in front of the hide. The light was not too good , unfortunately.

HIGH TIDE IN THE WIRRAL - January 10th

We decided to go to the coast to capture some waders roosting on the rocks just before high tide. We arrived just in time to take a few pictures before the birds left the rocks. Very strong sunshine, coming from the left and almost opposite us at times. I like this image of a dunlin in a typical pose.

This picture as well as the next one are full-frame shots. No cropping at all. I was so close I did not notice I clipped some of its toes.

I noticed that one of the many dunlins moving about the rocks had a misshapen bill, which made it look rather strange.
