BEGINNING OF MAY IN MORBIHAN

DEBUT MAI DANS LE MORBIHAN

On May 9th, I visited the salt-pans at Lasné near St-Armel and I was delighted to see lots of avocet chicks wading there, watched over by their parents.A few days later , I went back to the salt-pans .That morning, I did not see any chicks and I noticed the adult avocets were very agitated.I learned later that the chicks had probably been killed by a fox or some crows.

MERESANDSWOOD

During my stay in north-west england last April , I went back to Meresandswood ,north of Ormskirk , hoping to capture one of the kingfishers that are often seen perched outside Rufford hide.No kingfisher that time. We saw some jays, unfortunately too far to photograph well. We were entertained by a pair of bullfinches. The female never stopped flying here and there , gathering material for the nest while the male just stayed there ,perched on a twig, watching her.

CARR MILL

We went to a place called Carr Mill , near St-Helen's , which had been recommended to us. A waste of time.

PENNINGTON FLASH

We like going back to Pennington Flash near Leigh. Even though the feeding station at Bunting hide is quite dark, we can be sure to find some birds to photograph there.

NORFOLK

In mid-april , I went to England. During my stay we spent a long weekend in Norfolk where we did not see as many birds as we expected. We were probably too early in the month and the migrants were delayed by a cold north-easterly wind. We visited the reserves at Cley, Titchwell and Minsmere.

Painted Lady / Belle Dame

I captured this Painted Lady on my balcony in Vannes, using a 18-55mm lens, on may 19th. It seemed to enjoy my sweet-william very much.

I took this photo ,using a 70-300mm lens , in the normal position. I should have used it in the macro position but the little dog I was walking was pulling on her lead and I took the photo in a hurry. Photo taken near Etel ( Morbihan ) on may 24th.

I was looking out for birds to photograph when I saw that butterfly on the path , so I used the only lens I had, a 200-500mm lens, not the most appropriate one to take butterflies.
